Our Beliefs Shape Everything We Do

Our beliefs shape everything we do as a church. Below is a clear summary of the core truths we hold to.

At First Baptist Church of Kernersville, our teaching is rooted in the Bible and centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ. While no summary can capture everything we believe, the following outlines the foundational truths that guide our church.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Our Core Beliefs

  • The Bible is God’s inspired Word and without error (Deuteronomy 4:1-2; Isaiah 34:16; Matthew 5:17-18).
  • God is a Trinitarian God, existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
    • God the Father (Genesis 1:1; Exodus 3:14; Acts 1:7)
    • God the Son (Isaiah 53:1-12; Matthew 1:18-23; Revelation 1:13-16)
    • God the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:2; Matthew 1:18; 1 Timothy 3:16)
  • God is the creator and sustainer of all life (Genesis 1:1; John 1:3; Colossians 1:17).
  • God created Man in His own image; he created them male and female (Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:7; Colossians 3:9-11).
  • Jesus Christ is the uncreated, fully human, fully God, Son of God (John 1:1; John 1:14; Philippians 2:6-8).
  • The Holy Spirit is fully God and fully Spirit who continues Christ’s work and who is the giver of new life (John 14:26; Romans 8:14; John 3:5; Ephesians 1:17-19).
  • God created Man in His own image; he created them male and female (Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:7; Colossians 3:9-11).
  • People are sinners and have a choice between Heaven and Hell (Romans 2:6-8; Romans 6:23; Daniel 12:2; Psalm 9:17).
  • Salvation, which involves the whole person and is available to all who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, is obtained by God’s grace through faith and consists of regeneration,
    justification, sanctification, and glorification; the only way to enter Heaven is by trusting in Christ’s death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins (Matthew 1:21; Matthew 16:21-26; Luke 1:68-69; Ephesians 2:8-9; Luke 1:68-79; John 3:16; John 14:6).
  • Sunday, the first day of the week, is the Lord’s Day (Exodus 20:8-11; Mark 2:27-28; Revelation 1:10).
  • The Lord Jesus Christ established the New Testament Church (Matthew 16:15-19, 1 Corinthians 1:2; Ephesians 1:22-23).
  • The Second Coming of Christ, as promised in the Scriptures, is eagerly anticipated by the Church. (Mark 13; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3; Revelation 19:11-16).
  • The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby believers, through consuming bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize Christ’s death and anticipated Second Coming (Matthew 26:17-29; Luke 22:7-38; 1 Corinthians 11:23-25).
  • Jesus gave believers the Great Commission, a mandate to spread the Gospel and make disciples of all nations through witnessing (verbally and daily living) to the lost and by conducting and supporting missions and evangelism (Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 24:46-53; John 20:21; Matthew 9:37-38; Luke 24:46-53; 1 Thessalonians 1:8).
  • God ordained marriage between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6).
  • Baptism is a person’s complete immersion in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Mark 1:9; Romans 6:3-4; Acts 2:38).
  • Christians should contribute their means (time, talent, and resources) cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally (Genesis 14:20; Deuteronomy 8:18; Matthew 6:1-4).
